Sustainable Silhouettes Ft. Arodhi

Over the course of this year I have consciously cut down accumulating clothes. Now many will think this isn’t a smart move for a “fashion blogger” because new clothes means new posts but for me the need to shift into sustainability was far greater than my love for blogging, OOTDs and making a statement. Besides, its surprising how happy you get, and the number of different outfits you think of, when you remove that constant need to update your wardrobe.

Going into sustainability and ethical fashion also meant one more thing, I no longer wanted to be associated with mass produced fast fashion brands. So, when Krithika of Arodhi approached me for a collaboration I was thrilled because she and her brand have very similar ideals and principles as my blog and we were a perfect fit for each other! 😉

Arodhi is basically a fresh and a small start up by a recent NIFT graduate ~ Kirthana. She and her single tailor anna – Shabeer form the Arodhi team at the moment. She designs single pieces and takes orders on these designs and customizes them and Shabeer brings all her beautiful imagination to life with his impeccable tailoring.

Arodhi literally translates to fulfilling life through art! A design student at heart Kirthana truly fulfills her life and that of her customers with the beautiful silhouettes and patterns she creates for them!

When I asked how she would describe the clothes she made, Kirthana told me she saw Arodhi as a brand which makes garments which are trendy yet very simple and elegant. This is a conscious effort to ensure the women of this generation become ambassadors of our Indian traditional fabrics in styles they are most comfortable in.

It is beautiful that a young girl who has just launched her brand has such a clear beautiful vision about what her brand is and what it should stand for. I consider myself lucky to be getting to interact with such focused and confident women. 🙂

All clothes in Arodhi are made of organic fabrics which are hand painted/ hand dyed. Each piece is stitched specifically for a client and customized to their needs. The beauty of such small scale boutiques is that more often than not, they practice basic sustainability and ethical fashion without even trying too hard.

Arodhi however wants to take sustainable fashion to a whole new level and they practice it in the truest sense because one can always take back the garments stitched by them when they have had enough of wearing them and Arodhi recycles them into whole new outfits at a very marginal cost! It’s like having one piece of fabric which magically transforms into various pieces of clothing every once in a while! Now how fabulous is that? 😃

For showcasing their brand Kirthana sent me this beautiful cream unbleached natural jute dress. It is a pleated dress which has a very easy and relaxed silhouette. These breezy clothes are the kind I find myself levitating towards a lot these days. I think its an age thing. I no longer enjoy wearing figure hugging tshirts,  bodycons and jeans. Many people think these loose fitted clothes are not forgiving and they make one look rounder than normal. Just giving such outfits a try once will dispel such any doubts!

I kept the rest of the look very simple with a pair of golden mojaris and a violet clutch for a pop of color both of which I bought while aimlessly roaming the streets of Udaipur once upon a time.

I am thrilled I get to work with such young upcoming and yet tradionally rooted brands because of my blog. Hope you liked reading through this blog post. Do check out Arodhi on Facebook  and Instagram! Have a beautiful week ahead folks! ❤️

Onam Special Ft. Mahatriya

Hailing from a city called Palakkad which lies almost on the line dividing Tamil Nadu and Kerala has its own strange perks! We get to celebrate Keralite festivals without looking like a South Indian going on Karva Chauth fasts (er…yes I have some such friends! :P)

Skirting it out A-line at a time ;)

I share a love hate relationship with skirts! When I’m in the store I always steer towards the skirts section and fall in love with a lot of pieces and then I start thinking about where I’ll wear them and about what a pain it is to ensure I’m waxed or shaven each time I reach for a skirt when I can slouch in pants all day without a care in the world and I slink away from the skirts section feeling defeated! Haha! But that being said I also indulge every once in a while throwing all caution to wind and just buying the damn skirt because it is too awesome to not! And that’s precisely what happened when I saw this skirt on a 70% discount on Amazon! A brilliant looking skirt in a style I don’t have (A-line) at a 70% off too? I’ll have 10 of that please! 😉 Here’s what I bought!

This was a high waisted skirt from a brand called Bysi. I always steer clear of high waisted clothes because I feel I don’t have the waist or the hip to pull them off but I loved this print and the style of a belt/buckle like patch at the waist which gives it a cinching effect!

I absolutely love big geometric prints and since my style is always about accentuating one aspect of the outfit and keeping the rest of the outfit simple, I chose to team the skirt up with my plain black t-shirt. A little bling came in the form of this link chain and my gold TH watch!

The clutch, my sister’s was a last minute addition because I thought the tomato red/orange went well with the peach tones in the skirt! For shoes I wore my trusted nude pumps and completed the look!

This skirt is perfect for a evening dinner or a party (if you unlike me go to parties!) because it looks really bold and beautiful but not in a very in your face kinda way!

Outfit Details – A-line skirt :  Bysi from Amazon.in (psst…just checked, it’s still on a 70% off! Run!) Black T-shirt : Globus, Nude Pumps : Westside, Gold link chain : Gift, orange Clutch : Capresse, Watch : Tommy Hilfiger

That would be all from me folks! Will try and post a bit more regularly henceforth 🙂 A lot of interesting things are lined up for the blog 😀 hope you survive the week! Bye ❤️

How to pull of a graphic tee w/o looking like a 9 year old! Part-I

Hi everyone! Since I gave away the whole theme of the post right at the title let’s jump into the main content straightaway!

So I thought there are four ways to get away with wearing a graphic or a cartoon tshirt without having to look like :

a) You are sporting a right out of bed look or

b) a 9-year old basically!

I thought I’ll do this post as two parts with two ideas each and here they are!

For the two ideas of this post I chose a colorful graphic tshirt full of butterflies!

1. Give the look some structure

Adding an extra layer like a shirt or a jacket or a blazer is the easiest way to look put together! Since I’ve done the shirt over tshirt look several times (and since I simply wanted to wear the red blazer) I decided to go for a blazer 😬👍🏽 Take a looky!

2. Give the look some much needed BLING! ✨✨

For the second look I kept the rest of the look the same and replaced the blazer for a statement necklace ! A heavy necklace or a pair of earrings really take such a pre-teen-like tshirt into a suave and sophisticated outfit! I know you might at first think it is crazy to wear bling with cartoon and graphic tees but once you find the right piece of jewelry you’ll love it! Take a peeky!

Outfit Details : Red Blazer – ONLY, Butterfly Tshirt – Gift, Jeans – 109•F, Statement necklace – Some Instagram account (forgot which one!), Heels – Zara, Watch – Fossil, Sunglasses – Rayban

I will be back next week with two more ideas to look neat in a cartoon tshirt but until then make sure you try the two ideas in this post! ❤️ Happy Monday!

Seasonal Transitions – Winter! Cold but festive and happy!

It’s Monday! Lalalala 😍 I’m jumping with joy for Monday means posty-toasty day! Say yay for its Monday! ❤️ so I’m bringing the month long theme seasonal transitions to an end today with this exciting post about winter! Now winter as I’ve told you’ll several times before is pretty nonexistent in the tropical country I live in but hey it isn’t wrong to be fashionably prepared for a winter that might strike someday is it? Like what if you went on a penguin siting expedition and got stuck in the arctic circle one day? Ok..ok…what if your husband suddenly got a transfer to Alaska and you got to make lively there? Got you thinking dint I? Good now let’s move on and start of with our three looks for this winter babaayyy!

First up, Sandhya’s look

Now this cutie decided to look really chic and classy in her winter clothes as well and she transitioned from this warm pink light cardigan autumn look to her thick full arms body hugging tshirt with her wooly infinity scarf.

Since her skirt was the staple she did worked around the other elements like adding black stockings and edgy black and studded heels. I think she looks like an absolute stunner what do you say?😍😘

Also, thank you Sandhya for making this whole theme look so glamorous! It was wonderful and so easy and comfortable working with you. 😍

Next, Anusha’s look

Now Anusha retained her violet pants and her grey boots and replaced her grey sweatshirt and denim jacket with this light yellow crop top sweater! So cute!

This sweater may have been short but it was so cozy and comfortable to be in. You could always wear a full tshirt to cover your midriff whenever you want to go cropped for your sweaters! The gray gumboots were perfect for this season as well and hence we decided to retain it for this look!!

Finally, Shilpa’s look

Before I start of with my look I’m sure many of you are probably going to hate it and so I want give away a few disclaimers 😂 this look is so laid back and it’s probably for one of those days you just want to run some errands in your locality and then go back home and re-watch Friends for the millionth time. That said, let’s get started 🙈

Well…what do you think 😃! For winter I retained my black maxi skirt and replaced the tshirt and denim shirt with a warm sweater! I also went from femine heels to my white kicks to complete the outfit

So this was a sweater I bought from Oasap.com for a vacation and while I and everybody who would have ever worn this sweater would have paired it with a pair of tights I decided to change things slightly with this look! And that’s why I look like a fur ball – warm but pretty unshapely! Haha! But who cares about how chic they look when at home or when they are going nowhere significant right? So for those days you can try this look I hope!! 😍😂

That would be all from me folks! I hope you loved this whole theme! Your comments are what keep me motivated so please keep them coming! Did you like all the looks? Which one did you think was the easiest to achieve? Do tell me! I’m all ears 👂🏼 love you! ❤️

Oh and P.S.: in case you were wondering, we thought it will just be wrong to have a photo shoot in broad daylight because it’s such a green summery place where I live and hence we waited for it to become twilight and then carried on with our shoot because we figured that was probably the only way we could get the winter effect!! Thank you Pranav for the awesome photography as always ❤️

Seasonsal Transitions – Summer! Bright Light and Beachy!

Hola dearies! Happy yappy Monday to you all!! Do I sound too excited on a Monday? That is ONLY because I have an awesome post in store for y’all! :*

A little back story before we dive right into the post. A week back I was thinking what my next post/theme/couple of posts was going to be and just when an idea was forming in my head my sister told me she and her friend would shoot with me as well! Two cuties who look like a million bucks in just about anything they wear on my blog? I’m on!

So the Concept of the next four posts isss……1 2 3 4! Confused? That’s One Theme, Two Staples, Three Girls and Four Seasons!!  Ta-daaaaah! So its basically seasonal transitions of the same staple outfit. (Sonam Naidu..You remember you asked me to do this long ago with my red skirt? Thanks babe ❤ You inspired me!) So I will be showing you guys how to wade through the four seasons in a staple maxi skirt, my sister in pants and Sandhya in a dress! *So excited I could dieee*

Summer!

So this post is all about Summer! Summer is all about the beach and bright and light colors and that’s what we went for indeed!! 😀

First up, Sandhya’s Look

Firstly, lets all step back for a moment and admire this cutie…now lets proceed to the look. Ha! So we decided to keep Sandhya’s beach look very simple with this thin cotton brightly colored almost spaghetti strapped dress. She chose to pair it with these open gladiators which look elaborate and simple, dressy and laid back at the same time! Simple airy dresses like these scream summer and we love that! Dresses are also easily transitionable and you’ll see why we need that next week 😉 (Suspense and all!! :P)

Next, Anusha’s Look

IMG_3190 (null) (1) (null) (2)

Anusha look like a pretty picture in these comfy as hell palazzo pants and this lacy spaghetti top. Palazzo are one more piece of outfit which define sweaty summers and she sure was uber-cozy in them! She finished her look with these open flats and a pair of blue aviators!

And finally, Shilpa’s Look (yes mine!)

IMG_2491 IMG_2493

IMG_2490

I bought two maxis recently (like at last!!) and the minute I saw this coral one I knew this is exactly how I wanted to style it! This orange shirt and coral skirt combination almost give it a maxi dress like feel and knotting up the shirt made me feel breazy in my tummy and I loved it! (Lol!) I finished this look with these pretty F21 turquoise beads and I was pretty pleased with myself for thinking up of that color combination! (not at all pompous! Nope!) I also wore these cool blueeye collection beaded bracelet (birthday gift from *wink wink*) and my lazy flip flops to complete the look.

As I’m finishing this post I realise I’m running so late to work! So this is where I sign off peeps! Next week we three will show you how the same three staple outfits can be worn for spring! (Also, I just realised, I should have totally gone spring first and then come to summer isnt it?) Excited? Oh I sure am! Hope you enjoyed this post! I’m yapping too much today! Have an amazing week ahead! Love you! Stay Happy!! ❤ ❤ !!
